EDIT Lab / LSU

The people behind the research.

Principal investigator
Debnath Maji

Debnath Maji, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Biological and Agricultural Engineering

Dr. Maji directs the EDIT Lab. His work spans dielectric spectroscopy of whole blood, microfluidic biosensor design, flow-based hemostasis sensing, and electrochemical biosensing. Before joining LSU, he worked on point-of-care coagulation diagnostics at Coagulation Sciences and on electroporation-enabled therapeutic delivery at RenBio.

He earned his undergraduate and master's degrees in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He teaches in the biological engineering curriculum, with an emphasis on making instrumentation and signal conditioning legible to students without an electrical engineering background.

Graduate researchers

Jithin Thomas Chacko

Jithin Thomas Chacko

Graduate student, Biological and Agricultural Engineering

Jithin works across the lab's electrochemical biosensing and clot contraction studies, fabricating nanomaterial-modified and molecularly imprinted electrode interfaces and characterizing their selectivity for circulating biomarkers. He joined in Fall 2025, following a BSc in Chemistry at Kerala University, an MSc in Biopolymer Science at Cochin University of Science and Technology, and work on two-dimensional materials and electrochemical sensors at the Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad.

Ahnaf Tahmid

Ahnaf Tahmid

Ph.D. student and Graduate Research Assistant, Biological Engineering

Ahnaf leads the lab's coagulation-under-flow work, building the microfluidic sensors and measurement instrumentation and running the experiments that characterize how shear reshapes clot formation. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Dhaka, and brings a background spanning bioelectronics, biomedical sensing, and neural networks.
